Time to think about Christmas!!

Well that time of the year has finally reached the nether regions of Cornwall and we're starting to think about Christmas here at Cornish Fancies!! We're preparing for a christmas fayre soon enough, full of delicious goodies in time for the festive season - let us know if you would like to see anything in particular!

We've had a busy few weeks with wedding enquiries, consultations and a lovely order for some wedding favours (cupcakes) for a wedding in the next fortnight!
The above image shows a lovely sample for a wedding consultation we did last weekend. The couple were interested in Baileys cupcakes so we had a couple of weeks of sourcing and testing Baileys recipes much to the delight of our friends and neighbours!!

We've also been coming up with new recipes for yummy treats for our dessert tables or postal treats etc - the above pic is a yummy heap of Toffee Popcorn Brittle - toffee popcorn with white choc and dark choc - just perfect for nibbles over the party season or cosy nights in front of the fire......mmmm......!!! We've also been testing Almond Mazipan Bites too - well it's a hard job but someone's got to do it!!
We've also had the great pleasure of sending out our yummy treats to some special troops in Afghanistan, much to their delight!! They had brownies bites (as pictured above), with some yummy fudge too!! They went down a treat! (pardon the pun!!!) and we'll be sending more their way very soon! We're also offering ALL serving personnel in Afghanistana special discount of 15% off any orders they make too!!

In which we get all romantic....

The Treat Table in all its glory!
Well we did it!! The wedding fayre was a great success and it was so great to see everyone's reactions to our fab treat table! It really did look impressive with so many treats on offer! Our menu for the day included brownies - heart shape and fab wedding cake style ones (my favs!), macaroons, butterfly shaped biscuits on THE vintage birdcage(!), a 2 tier wedding cake, brownie bites, cupcakes and fiesta brittle!!

We had so many brides and grooms-to-be who were really keen on the idea of a Treat Table as something a bit different for their wedding guests and lots of people entered our competition to win a yummy treat of Brownies delivered to their door!

And now is the very busy time of planning wedding consultations, estimating quotes for everyone and generaly being creative and thinking up new treats all the time - we'd welcome any suggestions!!

Our big day is tomorrow!

Well after weeks of planning, baking and general runing round like headless chickens, we're finally going to our first ever wedding fayre tomorrow at St Michael's Hotel, Falmouth! We've been baking like mad to get our idea into a reality of creating a beautiful treat table - we had a trial run last night of the display and we were so so chuffed! We hope the brides-to-be will be just as impressed tomorrow!!!We're SO excited but have got some serious butterflies in our tummies too but we're confident that our yummy baked goods are ready for the Cornish brides and will really set a wedding apart from the rest and be really memorable for their guests. We can't wait to hear what the feedback will be!

A year today Cornish Fancies was born....

Really I should have announced it with some sort of fanfair and bunting (and of course cake!) but the truth is, is that it's just been too busy that we missed it!! I just happened to glance into my diary and I had written on this date Happy 1st Birthday Cornish Fancies! So I thought now might be a good time to explain a little about how we began and what we now do....Cornish Fancies was born after my friend Liz's first child Anna started her first day at school and I sent round some cupcakes to cheer her up. As she was already attending a local market selling crafty items, she suggested - well nagged! - that I should do it too - and so I did - with LOTS of help from Liz as I had my little boy to look after too. So I started selling various cupcakes at the local market every other week and they were very popular. Soon I started experimenting and developed other items I could sell such as the Cupcake Bouquets which proved to be a big hit - particularly with local hen parties!! Word soon got 'round!
After nagging Liz lots she too decided to sell yummy sweet and savoury treats at the local market to get a few extra pennies and she started doing really well too. We attended the local school Christmas Fair and although still seperately we both did really really well! It soon  became apparent that we were more or less doing the same sort of thing and hey presto! Cornish Fancies as it is now was born!Liz and I both have young children under 6 - 3 between us and they keep us very very busy, but it's lovely to make something and see people's eyes light up and actually then take a few pennies for it! We're SO excited about Cornish Fancies and we're dedicated to every single order that we get to make sure it's baked fresh, using yummy free-range eggs (always) and decorated perfectly for our customers.

We're so proud of our treat/dessert tables! If you haven't heard of them before, they're basically a yummy selection of all of your favourite sweet or savoury things to eat that you and your guests can enjoy!  Our treat/dessert tables have everything you could possibly want and more - cupcakes, macaroons, fudge, chocolate brownies, cookies and so much more!!! You get to choose everything too so if there's something you don't like that's fine and if there's something you love - great just choose more of it!!

In which I buy a vintage birdcage!

Well today I went to buy a birdcage! The latest trend (or so I read) in wedding decoration is to have a vintage birdcage displaying various items or somewhere to post wedding cards etc and I saw somewhere that someone had attached cookies to a vintage birdcage on a dessert table and it looked really effective and so.....!!! I think Liz thinks I'm slightly potty but she's humouring me (for the moment!). I am planning on baking some yummy butterfly shaped cookies to attach to the bird cage and think it will good for when we go exhibiting at the Wedding Fayre on 2nd October (fast approaching!!!) at St Michael's Spa Hotel, Falmouth.

Here goes nothing....

Well, here I am sat in front of this screen and keep looking at the word blog and wondering what on Earth to entertain you all with (all one of you out there who's happened to stumble upon this blog probably by mistake and wondered who on Earth I am wittering on about cakes....!).
I don't really know where to begin other than to tell you about our little company Cornish Fancies a little business set up by two Mums wanting to earn a few pennies by doing what we like doing best- baking! I (Vicky) bake cupcakes, traditional cakes, cupcake bouquets, cookies, whoopie pies, macaroons etc etc and Liz bakes a whole host of delicious goodies including brownies (her speciality!), gooey Malteser fudge and a savoury favourite Cheese & Sesame Rounds just to name a few! We started selling at a local market and then decided to come together as one and hey presto Cornish Fancies was born!

So the purpose of this blog is just to tell you all about how our little business and growing and our trial and tribulations along the way in the hope that someone out there may be interested!! In the meantime, have a look at our Facebook page and tell all of your friends in sunny Cornwall!!
